MONTGOMERY, AL – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team kept Alabama State to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-10 shooting performance on the way to a 70-47 win over the Hornets on the road Saturday.

How It Happened
After falling behind 8-6, UAPB went on a 9-0 run with 4:05 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Empress Roberts, to take a 15-8 lead. Alabama State then responded to tie things up at 15-15 heading into the second quarter. UAPB did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 15 points close to the basket.
Alabama State then took an 18-15 lead before UAPB responding by going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Reese, to take a 23-18 lead. The Golden Lions proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 34-28 advantage heading into halftime. UAPB forced five Alabama State turnovers in the period and turned them into 10 points.
UAPB wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Kaila Walker, to expand its lead further to 40-28 with 7:17 to go in the third. The Golden Lions held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 49-37 edge. UAPB knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 15 total points.
UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 63-47 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Shephard’s layup, to grow the lead to 70-47 with zero seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game.
